ANDREW WEATHERALL: The Last Album

Five years ago we lost the great DJ-producer and I lost a much treasured friend.

Andrew Weatherall was one of music’s true trailblazers, like the acid house generation’s John Peel with Guy Stevens passion. It’s become fairly obvious since he passed how irreplaceable he is.

These are the notes I wrote for ‘Phonox Nights’, the final album Andrew and Nina recorded together, released in late 2023 after a long, unnecessary battle that would have appalled its late co-creator. As I write, Nina Walsh, Andrew’s life, live and recording partner of over 30 years is up in her studio creating new music rather than dwelling on the past, like Andrew would have much preferred.
